# Universal Document Compatible mark — usage rules

The text and badge **Universal Document Compatible** may be used only for an issued certification whose authoritative public lookup record is currently `ACTIVE`.

The mark must appear with the certified scope and certification-profile version, and link to the public certification record. It means format compatibility only. It must not imply Universal Document ownership, preferred-vendor status, security endorsement, legal endorsement, identity verification, regulatory compliance, or general product quality.

Copying the badge artwork does not create certification. When a record is expired, withdrawn, superseded, or revoked, active-certification wording and the badge must be removed. A superseded record may be described historically as having been certified for the named version and date.
