Lifecycle
UDR carries document identity, revisions, approvals and provenance while work changes. An exact final state becomes UDS. A later amendment starts a new UDR; it never overwrites the prior UDS.
What UD can replace
Filename-only version signaling, manual hash manifests, and some ad-hoc handoff packaging where a portable UD is sufficient.
What UD can coexist with
Word, PDF, e-signature, CLM, DMS, SharePoint, board portals, identity systems, managed keys, workflow automation, trusted timestamps, retention repositories and enterprise APIs.
Integration boundary
Current systems can create, receive, store or index UDR/UDS through conversion and APIs. UD remains the portable document substrate rather than a monolithic enterprise replacement.
Current limitations
Enterprise administration, retention enforcement, broad integrations and production organizational signing depend on commensals and existing systems. No compliance, regulator approval or customer deployment is claimed.
